Attorney Margo Cowan—one of the founders of No More Deaths, pro bono attorney for the organization, and founder of the Keep Tucson Together legal clinics—was recognized in June at the annual conference of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Margo was given the Arizona Chapter Pro Bono Champion Award, honoring her years of pro bono service. Thank you, Margo, for your tireless work and dedication on behalf of the most vulnerable in our border community.
Norma Price, MD—volunteer with No More Deaths, the Tucson Samaritans, and other organizations in Tucson—was recognized by Physicians for Human Rights at their annual gala in New York in May. The gala honors the work of health professionals working on the front lines to defend human rights. Norma was one of three people to receive the Heroes of Health and Human Rights award, which honors American health professionals who have taken courageous stands in extraordinary times, resisting government policies that threaten their patients’ health and rights and ensuring that the needs of their patients and the ethical demands of their professions come first. Congratulations, Norma, and thank you for continuing to inspire us and help prevent human suffering in the Mexico–US borderlands.
